In Praise of Love

Please join us for a film showing this coming Thursday, on the 3rd
of March,at 7:15 pm.
Cinematic iconoclast Jean-Luc Godard returned to the forefront of
contemporary cinema in 2002 with "In Praise of Love"
(Eloge de l'Amour). Shot in both black and white 35mm and
dazzlingly color-saturated digital video, the fractured narrative
follows a filmmaker in the process of casting a part for his next
film, which deals with the subject of love. After the death of the
woman he has chosen, the film flashes back to the first time he
met her, when, while doing research for his previous project, he
met an elderly couple who, having participated in the French
Resistance, sold their life story to a Hollywood producer. While
rabidly attacking Hollywood’s exploitation of history, this
haunted, melancholy film questions itself about the relationship
between ideological oppression, memory and love. For all its bile
and incoherence, In Praise of Love is filled with haunting images
and insights.

"In Praise of Love is one of Jean-Luc Godard's most sad, beautiful,
and accessible films."
-Tom Vick, All Movie Guide
